      NEW BERN Exave M. Lupton, Jr., 83, died Monday, January 2, 2012, at Riverpoint Crest Nursing Home.

      Mr. Lupton was a veteran of the U.S. Army, having served in the 7th Cavalry in the Korean Conflict, where he received a Purple Heart. He was a member of Dixon-Conderman Post Veteran of Foreign Wars #2514, and New Bern Elks Lodge #764. He was a graduate of East Carolina University. Over his career he had worked at Borg-Warner Finance in Charlotte, Dallas, Atlanta, Jacksonville, Fla. and Chicago; and Federal Home Loan Bank in Greensboro. He operated H & L Personnel and Ex-L Personnel of Jacksonville, Fla., and Lupton Realty of New Bern; and served as a manufacturer's representative for Scott Fabrics and Delta Fabrics of Tennessee. He was a member of First Baptist Church of New Bern.

      He was preceded in death by his parents, Exave M. Lupton, Sr. and Emily Johnson Lupton and his wife, Beverly Lupton.

      He is survived by one son, James M. Lupton of Morehead City; one daughter, Diane Tyndall and husband Ken of New Bern; three stepsons, Bill Benners III of New Bern, Bob Benners of Wilmington and Donnie Benners of Mechanicsville, Va.; two stepdaughters, Linda Benners Winfield of New Bern and Patricia Benners Corlew of Grand Junction, Tenn.; 17 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and eight cousins.

      The funeral will be 2 p.m. Wednesday, January 4, 2012, at Pollock-Best Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Steven Fitzgerald officiating. Burial, with military honors will be at New Bern Memorial Cemetery.

      The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 1 p.m. 2 p.m. Wednesday, just prior to the funeral.

      In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Exave M. and Beverly J. Lupton Entrepreneurship Scholarship Fund, c/o Craven Community College Foundation, 800 College Court, New Bern, NC 28562.
