Notes |
- Not really sure if this person exists.
There is a Josephus born in 1855. They could use the name of Joseph. Josephus shows up in the 1860 and 1870 census along with the rest of the family. He is not with the family in the 1880 census. The Lupton book shows he "died a young man in Portland, Maine - single."
Joseph shows up in the 1900 census (along with his mother and a sister) with a birth date of June 1874, almost 20 years younger than Josephus (who would be 45 at this point). Joseph is not with the family in the 1880 census and the 1890 census was lost to fire and water damage.
Also in the 1900 census it is shown that Sidney (mother to Josephus/Joseph) bore 12 children with seven surviving to the date of the census. All seven of these are accounted for - not leaving room for Josephus or Joseph being alive.
They may be one and the same with the Lupton book being in error about the death of Josephus and the census taker in 1900 being in error about Joseph's age and number of living siblings.
