    The description of the interview from the original source: "A North Carolina Doctor Describes Practicing Medicine in a Mill Town: North Carolina doctor Carroll Lupton recalls his days practicing medicine in the mill town of Burlington, North Carolina. Focusing primarily on the 1930s, Lupton talks about providing medical care to poor mill workers. Lupton emphasizes medical treatment for pregnant women, treatment of venereal disease, and popular medical remedies of the day."

      Deceased Name: CARROLL C. LUPTON
      Dr. Carroll C. Lupton, M.D., 89, of 3300 Starmount Drive died Saturday, Feb. 8, 1997, at Moses H. Cone Hospital.

      The funeral service will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at West Market Street United Methodist Church. Inturnment will follow in Guilford Memorial Park.

      Dr. Lupton was born in Whortonsville. He was a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons and practiced in Greensboro for 31 years. He was a veteran of the United States Navy, where he served as Senior Medical Officer of the 140th Naval Construction Battalion in the South Pacific during World War II.

      Dr. Lupton was a member of West Market Street United Methodist Church where he served on the Board of Stewards. He was a Master Mason in the Gate City Lodge and was a member of Scottish Rite and the Shrine. He belonged to the Hamilton Lakes Civitan Club and the Greensboro Amateur Radio Club.

      He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Clara Mae Lupton of the home; son, the Rev. Carroll C. Lupton, Jr. and wife, Michael of Hamptonville; sister, Carrie B. Murrell of Winston-Salem; brothers, Judge Harvey A. Lupton of Winston-Salem, Dr. Emmett S. Lupton, M.D. of Alamance and Lt. Col. Ret. Frederick A. Lupton, Jr. of Bowie, Md.; and grandchildren, Carroll C. Lupton, III of Charlotte and Laura Lake Lupton of Sunnyvale, Calif.

      The family will receive friends 7-9 tonight at Hanes-Lineberry North Elm Chapel and other times at the home.
