    1. [S4] Obituary.
LUPTON, Clarence Clarence Lyle Lupton, 87, widower of Cleo Lynch Lupton, passed away on the morning of January 17, 2005. Residence, Hanahan, South Carolina.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend his Memorial Service in J. HENRY STUHR, INC., GREENRIDGE ROAD CHAPEL, Saturday morning, January 22nd, at eleven o'clock. A visitation will be held at the Chapel following the service. The Committal Service will be private.

Mr. Lupton was born in Whortonsville, North Carolina on October 4, 1917, the son of Eugene St. Clair Lupton and Luvenia Woodard Lupton. He was a World War II Navy Veteran and was a retired Harbor Pilot with the Charleston Naval Shipyard.

Clarence Lupton was a gregarious man whose family and friends will remember his pleasure in being with others, and his wonderful sense of humor. Mr. Lupton maintained that since he was 87 he would now grow old with Grace? as soon as he could remember where she was. He served on the Deacons' Search Committee to find a new minister for his church; he startled several candidates when he asked in their interviews if they knew any funny stories or good jokes, since a minister without a sense of humor would be a trial to listen to every Sunday morning. His lifelong belief was that laughter brought people together and was good for the soul. May Light Perpetual Shine Upon Him.

Surviving are a daughter, Annette Lupton of Hanahan, SC; a sister, Inez Lupton Venters of Jacksonville, NC; a grandson, Theodore Nichols Lupton and his wife Michelle Quinn Lupton of Lexington, SC; and two great-grandchildren, William Quinn Lupton and Claire Quinn Lupton.
